Quebec Comiccon Celebrates 5 Years - The Festival of Superheroes

A special Family Edition

QUEBEC, Sept. 24, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- On Saturday and Sunday, October 20th and 21st, Quebec Comiccon will mark its fifth anniversary with a special edition dedicated to the entire family, particularly the young ones and with a special family price! The 2018 event promises to transform the Centre des congrès de Québec into an immense wholesome party, packed with a whirlwind of activities to marvel and entertain the superhero in all of us.

Over the past five years, Quebec Comiccon has evolved into the capital’s most anticipated destination for fans of bandes dessinées, comics, video games, movies and television, anime, and everything related to world of fantasy fiction. On this landmark occasion, the organizers are dedicating the festival to the children and inviting adults to bring along as many kids as they can manage. Budding superheroes will find it hard to rest in a Centre des congrès transformed into a Family Zone with challenging inflatable games, fantastic make-up and bead stations, appearances by NSPW wrestlers, video game areas, collectible and toy exhibitors, and numerous opportunities to mingle with beloved characters and comic book artists.

More than 70 Star Wars characters will be in attendance, courtesy of the Quebec Imperial Fortress, offering endless opportunities to chat and take pictures with heroes from the mythical sci-fi saga. These members of the international 501st Legion are renowned for their detailed costumes and an unbridled passion to bring to life the fascinating inhabitants of a galaxy far, far away. They will be joined at the Comiccon by the cast of Vikings Cosplay Quebec, a ferocious and joyful troupe devoted to incarnate the characters of the Canadian-Irish hit TV show, Vikings. Young and old will rub shoulders and partake in banquets with the mighty Lagertha, Floki, Ragnar, Rolo, Bjorn, Astrid, Torvi and many more. For a modest contribution for the benefit of Club des petits déjeuners (Breakfast Club), guests may don a full Viking costume and snap an epic picture with the fearsome bunch. And among the deep space and Nordic warrior mayhem, fans will also get the chance to aim their cameras and pose with iconic movie machines, such as the impressive Bumblebee from Transformers and the Jurassic Park Explorer.

All visitors, and particularly the very young ones, are encouraged to wear their favorite superhero and fantasy character costumes, just for fun or to display them with flair at the Quebec Comiccon’s Masquerade on Saturday. For those who have never witnessed it, the Masquerade is a wildly entertaining parade of dazzling costumes, from simple outfits to extremely elaborate creations by master cosplayers, where spectators go absolutely bonkers cheering for their favorites. It must be seen to be believed.

Quebec’s famous La Planque video game store will present the Retro Gaming Zone, an area filled with gaming stations from Nintendo Nes, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Sega Genesis, PS4 and many more. Guests are invited throughout the entire weekend to test their skills at dozens of games, new and vintage, with a focus on retro and some of the most popular titles of all-time. The imaginative Film Music Wind Orchestra (OVMF, for its name in French) will return to perform rousing renditions of Star Wars scores and captivating interpretations of video game themes. The 50-musician orchestra will present two concerts for passionate fans of the genre and beginners with a keen interest to discover classical music through popular pieces.

As always, Quebec Comiccon will offer precious opportunities for collectors of comics, toys, and other pop culture wonders to browse and shop at a multitude of exhibitors come from all over the province. Budding artists will stroll through the Artists Alley to watch some of Canada’s most impressive comic book creators and illustrators at work, to exchange ideas with their favorites, and even purchase their astonishing art.
