A man was arrested for attempting to rob the bank he once worked at while donning an old man silicone mask Monday in southern Brazil.

Alexis Schirmer, 36, returned to the bank he was employed at for five years and passed a note to a female teller announcing the midday heist.

'This is a robbery. Look at my jacket. Let's keep calm,' the warning note read.

'Take the bag, put the envelopes and the money in your hand. Pretend nothing is happening, don't make a fuss. No one needs to get hurt. Got it?'

The sight of Schirmer wearing an old man's costume, which completely covered his head and upper torso, while holding a plastic weapon sent the teller into a state of panic before she fell to the ground.

According to a police report, Schirmer, who quit working at the bank a year ago, ran to the building's cafeteria and jumped from a second floor window.

He landed on a parked car and fractured his leg.

Schirmer was apprehended immediately and transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Police recovered two fake guns from Schirmer at the scene.

As of Tuesday, Schirmer was still in police custody at the medical facility. He will be transferred to a jail as soon as doctors discharge him.

The robber's choice of outfit brought back memories of a Brazilian drug dealer's foiled jail escape plot on August 4.

Clauvino da Silva, 42, was busted for trying to walk out of a Rio de Janeiro maximum security prison sporting a female latex mask, a wig and his daughter's clothing.

However, da Silva was found hanging inside his jail cell three days later.
