Sean Wilson has hinted he would be happy to return to Coronation Street full-time ahead of his character’s arrival on screens on Thursday.

Martin Platt, who was last seen 13 years ago, will come back to the Cobbles in upcoming scenes as he offers comfort to his son David, who viewers will know has just been raped by Josh Tucker.

Although David doesn’t tell his father what’s happened to him, the old Weatherfield favourite is keen to get his son to open up to him in a teaser clip aired on Thursday’s Lorraine.

And Wilson seemed keen to make Martin’s return more permanent, telling the show: “I think I've made it clear that the character has enough links within the show.

“Past relationships, marriages, children, grandchildren, there's quite a bit to go at."

The actor also compared being back on set to “putting on an old jumper”, adding that everyone made him feels really welcome.

Wilson also teased the moment Martin reunites with his ex-wife Gail Platt after all these years.

It was recently learned that Martin is having a baby with his partner Robyn, whom he left to be with back in 2005, and he wants to tell his son the news in person.

Meanwhile, producer Kate Oates have revealed that the struggling hairdresser will have a one-night stand with a 19-year-old newcomer.

In the wake of his horrific ordeal, David will spend the night with Audrey Roberts’ intern young Emma to try to “prove” that he can still attract women after he ends his relationship with Shona Ramsey.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
