Strasburg traffic stop with K-9’s help results in Maryland man’s arrest, drug seizure

STRASBURG, Va. (WHSV) - A Maryland man was arrested Wednesday after a traffic stop that resulted in the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office seizing drugs and related paraphernalia with the help of a narcotics K-9.

SCSO conducted the traffic stop in the 2000 block of John Marshall Highway in Strasburg, and Narcotics K-9 Axel gave a positive alert, according to a SCSO release. After further investigation, deputies recovered the following:

  • Five capsules of suspected fentanyl
  • Five vials of suspected cocaine
  • Suboxone strips
  • Other various controlled substance tablets
  • Multiple syringes

The driver was identified as Christopher Corey Powers of Dundalk, Maryland. Deputies arrested Powers and he is currently being held without bond at Rappahannock Shenandoah Warren Regional Jail. So far, Powers has been charged with the following:

  • 18.2-250: Possession of a Sch. I or II Controlled Substance
  • 46.2-300: Driving Without a License
  • 46.2-821: Fail to Stop at a Stop Sign
  • 19.2-100: Fugitive from Justice

The investigation is still ongoing, and additional charges for Powers are pending.
