Abstract: Biochemic tissue salts play a key role in maintaining proper cell function and supporting overall health by regulating the levels of tissue salts in the body. These remedies are created by using minimal amounts of inorganic tissue salts. There are twelve different biochemic tissue remedies, each with its own unique properties. Biochemic medicine plays a crucial role in Paediatrics by offering a natural and gentle approach to treating common childhood ailments and supporting overall health. This article explores the need for and potential benefits of incorporating Schuessler’s tissue salts into paediatric care, based on their ability to restore mineral balance and enhance the body’s functionality.
Key Words: Biochemic Medicine, Inorganic Tissue Salts, Health, Paediatrics.
Introduction: Biochemic medicine or Schussler’s twelve tissue remedy were first introduced in homoeopathy by Dr. Schussler. Biochemic therapeutics are based on the idea that the structure and function of the body’s organs depend on certain minerals, which are left behind after the body’s tissues burn. These minerals, or “cell salts,” form the foundation of the body’s tissues and are necessary for their health and function. According to Schussler’s theory, when these minerals are out of balance or deficient in the body, it leads to disease. By giving small amounts of these essential minerals, the balance can be restored, and the body can regain its health.
For example, a child with rickets exhibits a deficiency of calcium and phosphate in their bones, and a child with iron deficiency anemia exhibits a deficiency of Ferrum in their blood. For both patients, administering the same salt will restore their condition to normal and aid in the treatment of both conditions.[2]
Dose, or quantity of tissue salt required to re-establish normal cell equilibrium- [3]
Biochemic remedies are administered in minimal doses.
The use of small doses in biochemical treatment is a chemico-physiological necessity. For example, the goal is to get Glauber’s salt into the bloodstream. It cannot be done by giving it in a concentrated solution.[3]
How do Tissue Salts and Homeopathy differ from one another? [4]
Inorganic salts that function as constitutive elements for cell function are known as biochemic medications. One could compare these biochemical medications to vitamins. Similar to how a shortage of certain vitamins can result in symptoms, a lack of various tissue salts can also cause pathology and the emergence of specific symptoms. Therefore, the symptoms can be eliminated by administering the appropriate tissue salt. It should be noted that the physiological level is where homeopathic biochemic remedies work. On the other hand, homeopathy enhances the body’s natural healing process by acting on an energetic level. Therefore, homeopathic remedies only encourage the body to take care of itself rather than replenishing anything. In a nutshell, the homeopathic remedies give a boost to the raw materials to do the job.[4]

Indication Of 12 Tissue Remedy In Paediatrics Practice-, [1], [3], [4], [5], [6]
- CALC FLUOR
- Calcium fluoride is particularly found abundant in the bones and teeth, blood vessel walls, muscles and connective tissue. This salt gives strength to weak brittle bones. It also heals bone spur, ganglionic cyst.
- Calc fluor helps in maintaining tissue elasticity when it is lax or overly stiff. It is indicated for skin cracks and fissures, and when the skin becomes thick and hard. It relieves hernia pains.
- Calc fluor helps in haemorrhoids, glandular tumours and varicose veins.
- Complaints in general aggravate in Wet weather, while warmth and massage can improve symptoms.
- CALC PHOS
- Calc phos is important for the skeletal system, teeth and connective tissues. As a mineral compound, calcium phosphate constitutes over half of bone structure.
- It is helpful in healing fractures, complaints of the digestive system. Relive coldness and numbness from poor circulation. It is a valuable remedy in childhood when the bones are in condition of being formed.
- Calc phos is beneficial for anaemia, poor growth and development in children.
- It promotes the development of teeth and helps with teething problems or carries of teeth.
- It can also be used to speed recovery when convalescence from illness is delayed.
- Pains related to Calc phos get worse at night.
- This salt is used for development delay, repair of bone and body tissue, or loss of bone, teeth or any other tissue.
- Calc phos is beneficial for delayed dentition, rickets, open fontanelles and for Emaciated children with shrunken bodies and flabby bellies, soft, thin, brittle bones, growing pains, Non-union of bones and osteoporosis.
- Recovery from injury and illness. Improves memory and relieves nervousness when nutrition deficient.
- CALC SULPH
- Calc sulph is a blood purifier and is often useful for acne, abscesses, ulcers and wounds that have become infected.
- Calc sulph closes and clears up an infection.
- This remedy is indicated for infections that are slow to heal, and when the discharges are yellow, thick and possibly bloody.
- Calc sulph can prevent an oncoming cold or sore throat.
- FERR PHOS
- Ferrum Phos may be considered the “first aid cell salt” as it may be applied to the 1st stage of all acute sickness.
- Ferr phos relieve fevers in children, especially where the skin is hot and dry and the cheeks flushed, there will be thirst, and the head congested and throbbing.
- Ferr phos is indicated with painful sore throats, laryngitis, earaches and several inflammatory conditions in the beginning stages.
- It is useful immediately after an injury to stop the blood flow if there is bleeding, or to reduce swelling, heat, redness and pain.
- With sprains or strains, where the pains are worsened by movement.
- Ferr phos is an oxygen supplier to the cells, so it is useful for anaemic conditions, particularly when they occur as a result of haemorrhage.
- It is also good for the convalescent stage to relieve the final effects of inflammation.
- KALI MUR
- Kali mur is considered for weak and sluggish conditions.
- It acts as a blood purifier when infections discharge a thick, white or gray substance.
- It is useful in skin eruptions and in infections after the initial inflammatory stage.
- In injuries where swelling occurs, use Kali mur during the initial swelling phase.
- Kali mur is useful for infections such as tonsillitis, head colds and earaches when the swelling is marked.
- With infectious bronchitis, the phlegm is thick and causes rattling and wheezing.
- Poor digestion, after eating rich or fatty foods, also benefits from Kali mur.
- The tongue is markedly coated white and the stool is light in colour, indicating sluggishness of the liver.
- KALI PHOS
- Kali Phos is a constituent of the brain, nerves, muscles and blood vessels. It unites with albumen and creates nerve fluid or the gray matter of the brain.
- Nervous symptoms indicate a deficiency of this cell-salt, which must be supplied to restore the normal condition.
- kali phos is being used to treat nervous conditions like neurasthenia, brain-fag, mental fatigue, and disorders such as paralysis, epilepsy, and hysteria.
- It is especially useful in paediatrics cases dealing with nervous exhaustion, prostration, and developmental delays, helping to restore nerve power.
- Kali phos relieves insomnia, asthma, headaches and indigestion if they are triggered by a temporary attack of nervous tension.
- This tissue salt is useful for treating physical conditions relating to the nerves, including shingles and skin conditions with itching and a crawling feeling.
- Indicated when mag phos fail to relieve Nerve pains or spasms.
- KALI SULPH
- Kali Sulph is a carrier of oxygen. It furnishes vitality to the epithelial tissues. Kali sulph is indicated for the third stage of inflammatory or catarrhal condition, diarrhoea, skin diseases, rheumatism, ulcerations, dyspepsia.
- Kali sulph helps with conditions of the skin and mucous membranes. These skin conditions have a characteristic discharge which is yellow and sticky or watery, common in the later stages of an infection. The tongue is covered with a slimy, yellow coating. Crusty, thick and scaly skin is an indication for this remedy.
- Diarrhoea and sinus infections past the initial stages with a slimy, yellow discharge. Digestive complaints and colic with gas or shifting relief by this tissue salt. In general, the conditions are better in cool, open air, and worse in warm, closed rooms. Kali sulph is indicated when Mag phos fails to relieve cramps, especially when some of the above symptoms are also present.
- MAG PHOS
- Mag phos is the chief tissue salt for cramps and spasms in the muscles or nerves. Nerve pains are sharp and shoot along the nerve. This tissue salt quickly relieves cramps and colic that are improved by warmth, pressure and doubling over.
- Cold drafts and cold water worse the condition.
- Tension headache, spasmodic coughs get better from Mag phos.
- In the acute stages, this tissue salt acts more quickly when taken after dissolving in hot water.
- NAT MUR
- This tissue salt’s main function is to properly distribute body fluids. If excess dryness or water retention occurs, this indicates a need for Nat mur.
- Dr. Schuessler observed that common salt is in all body cells as well as the blood. As salt attracts water, the presence of salt keeps the body properly hydrated. If cells lack salt, the water stays in the intercellular fluid and creates a bloated effect in that area of the body.
- Water-filled blisters, insect bites, hives that itch, and dry eczema are skin conditions this tissue salt often heals.
- Colds and hay fevers with watery mucus and sneezing, usually accompanied by a loss of smell and taste, indicate Nat mur.
- Other problems helped by this tissue salt are constipation, digestive complaints, and headaches that are worse in the morning and from the sun. Often a craving for salt develops, and the spirits tend to be low. Sometimes, there is an associated feeling of hopelessness.
- NAT PHOS
- Nat phos is an acid-neutralising tissue salt. It is useful for an acidic stomach which causes nausea, gas, sour belching or a thick, white coating on the tongue.
- Nat phos is a useful remedy for morning sickness when the vomiting is sour. Since overacidity is also the source of many arthritic complaints (including gout), Nat phos is often helpful.
- This tissue salt also regulates bile production, and can be used for jaundice, gall-bladder colic and indigestion from rich or fatty foods in children.
- NAT SULPH
- Nat sulph regulates the distribution of water and the flow of bile. This tissue salt is beneficial for the liver, pancreas, intestines and kidneys.
- Jaundice, bitter belching and dark-coloured, greenish stools and diarrhoea all suggest a need for this tissue salt. The coating on the tongue is typically greenish brown.
- In the respiratory system, this tissue salt should be considered for asthma brought on by humidity. The effects of head injuries may be remedied by Nat sulph.
- SILICEA
- Silicea is well known as a tissue salt to ripen infections and eliminate them through the surface. It acts as a blood cleanser and is useful in abscesses, tonsillitis and other infections to promote the formation of pus when an outlet is available.
- The tissue salt Silicea supports the bone structure and connective tissues. When it is lacking, the nails, hair and bones may become weak. Weakness and poor stamina may be evident in other parts of the body, so this tissue salt should be considered if these problems fail to resolve and if injuries heal poorly.
- It can also be used for absent-mindedness and weak memory.
- Consider Silicea for neuralgia when Mag phos fails.
- It is indicated by those who need more stamina, especially when malnutrition is present. Think of Silica as a catalyst.
- Lack of stamina – mental, physical and sexual; measure their energy needs Lack of body warmth – desire warmth, < cold and cold wind
- Premature babies – first remedy for this presentation, babies with large heads and thin bodies, fair, delicate skin with blue tinge • Developmental delays in speech, walking, & growth
- Vaccine induced developmental delays or malaise
- Ear, sinus, and respiratory infections
- Dairy intolerant, even of mother’s milk
There are the basic 12 tissue salts (plus 21 additional tissue salts, according to research work of the Biochemical associations in Europe we now have 33 Tissue salts, all present in the human body. The other 21 salts are only present in minute quanties and all are very important for health functioning of our bodies) that can be used on their own, or in recommended combinations, to treat a very wide variety of ailments.

How Biochemic remedies are prepared?
These twelve biochemic remedies are prepared in homeopathy by mixing one part of a pure mineral salt with nine parts of lactose. Then, one part of this mixture is added to nine parts of lactose again, making it a 2X potency. This process is repeated to create a 6X potency, which can be absorbed directly into the bloodstream when taken by mouth. Tissue salts are available in tablet form.
What is the dosage of biochemic remedies?
- For acute conditions, the dose can be repeated every hour or two.
- In severe acute cases with painful affection, the dose may be repeated every 10 to 15 minutes.
- For chronic conditions, one to four doses can be repeated each day.
- In some cases, the remedies can also be used externally.
How to use biochemic remedies?
- Dissolve in mouth
- Dissolve in water (drinking)
- Gels, lotion Bath
What are the side effects of biochemic remedies?
Homoeopathically prepared biochemic remedies have no side effects because they contain a very small amount of tissue salt. They are safe to use.
Literature Review-
- According to an article published in the journal Hpathy, a case of rickets with bone deformation showed considerable improvement under individualized homeopathic treatment, along with the biochemic medicine Calcarea Phos 6X. [7]
- A retrospective study evaluated the role of Natrum Sulphuricum 6X in treating paediatric respiratory diseases. Among 30 cases, 15 received Natrum Sulphuricum 6X along with constitutional remedies, showing marked improvement in 12 cases. In the other 15 cases treated with only constitutional remedies, only 4 showed improvement. Natrum Sulphuricum 6X was found effective as a supportive therapy for paediatrics respiratory complaints.[8]
- A study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of Ferrum Phosphoricum 3X and Ferrum Metallicum 3X in improving haemoglobin (Hb) levels in schoolchildren with Iron Deficiency Anaemia. After 3 months of treatment, a significant increase in Hb was observed in children with moderate anaemia in the Ferrum Phosphoricum group. Ferrum Phosphoricum showed potential in improving Hb levels without side effects, while other groups did not show significant improvement.[9]
Conclusion: Based on the literature review and research studies, we concluded that biochemic medicines are effective in paediatrics, both alongside constitutional medicines and independently. It is important to understand when and how to use these medicines for optimal results in treating paediatrics conditions.
