South Korean cosmetic retailer Clio has bought Japanese cosmetics distributor Doowon and cosmetics import agency Kiwami in a US$6 million deal.

Clio intends to establish a Japanese subsidiary through these purchases enabling it to increase sales and profitability over the medium-to-long term by streamlining its Japanese business structure.

The connection between Clio and Doowon dates back to 2013, when Doowon became the brand’s vendor, delivering Clio’s colour cosmetics brand, Peripera, to the Japanese market.

Clio sells its primary brand items, such as Clio, Peripera, and Goodal, in more than 15,000 locations across Japan, including drugstores and other retail locations.

Clio was founded in 1993 in South Korea and now has presence in the US, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Vietnam.
