JR Herrell wins week 11 Football Contest

Week 11 has come to a close in the annual Lamb County Leader-News Football Contest, with JR Herrell taking the top prize this week with a mark of 16-4.

Lonnie Neinast and Richard Orozco tied for second place this week with a mark of 15-5. The tiebreaker was the combined score from the Packers and Chiefs game, which was 20 points.

Lonnie Neinast ended up taking second place with a guess of 43 points for the tie-breaker edging out Orozco, who ended up in third place this week, with a guess of 49 points for the tie-breaker.

In the High School ranks, Childress took down Canadian, 34-13, while Ropes blasted Smyer, 30-6, and Roosevelt took down Idalou, 34-21. Motley County took down Jayton, 82-36, while New Deal throttled Sundown, 42-14, and Anton took down Lazbuddie on Thursday, 68-48, to finish the regular season as undefeated district champs.

Farwell edged out Olton, 28-20, while Springlake-Earth 45’ed Kress, 60-14, to claim their second consecutive district title. Muleshoe won a triple-overtime thriller over Littlefield, 38-36.

In the college ranks, Texas A&M took down Auburn, 20-3, while Notre Dame’s defense shut down Navy, 34-6. Iowa State blasted Texas, 30-7, while Purdue stunned #3 Michigan State, 40-29, and Army took down Air Force in overtime, 21-14.

In the NFL, The Cowboys fell to the Broncos, 30-16, while the Saints fell short against the Falcons, 27-25, and the Browns put a beating on the Bengals, 41-16. The Patriots took down the Panthers, 24-6, and the Titans downed the Rams, 28-16.

The rest of the individual scores this week are as follows:

Those who finished 14-6 this week were, Ivan Estrada, Charlie Smith, Jan Smith, Jim Davis Sr., Johnny Rosemond, Kay Cloninger, Lyndel Evans, Mark Grace and Tommy Cloninger, while David Neinast, Dewayne Hayes, Floyce Pierce, Marcelino Garcia Jr., Oscar Sanchez and Thomas Blackstone each finished 13-7.

Those who finished 12-8 this week are, Alma Castillo, Devin Garcia, Donna Neinast, Jim Davis Jr., Marcus Garcia, Martin Duran, Martin Duran Jr., Robin Elliott and Terrill Moorhead. 11-9 finishers this week were Brenda Herrell, Larry Ashley and Marcelino Castillo, while Bobby Cunningham and Sam Castillo each finished 10-10.

Ed Dabrowski finished 8-12 this week, while Teresa Dabrowski finished 6-14.

In the overall standings, Estrada and Donna Neinast are tied for first place with 160 points, while Lonnie Neinast is in second place with 159 points and David Neinast is in third place with 158 points. Kay Cloninger, Grace, Tommy Cloninger and Sanchez are tied for fourth with 157 points, while Evans in fifth place with 155 points.

JR Herrell, Garcia Jr., and Moorhead are tied for sixth with 152 points, while Jan Smith and Blackstone are tied for seventh with 149 points, and Rosemond is in eighth place with 148 points. David Sr. and Hayes are tied for ninth with 146 points and Stevy Smith and Devin Garcia round out the top 10 tied with 145 points.
