SDUSD Police Investigating Reports of Men Performing Lewd Acts Near School

San Diego Unified School District police are investigating two separate reports involving men performing lewd acts in their cars near a middle school in Mira Mesa on Monday.

Wangenheim Middle School Principal Matt Fallon sent a letter to the school community Tuesday detailing both incidents.

The first happened after dismissal at around 2:35 p.m. on Black Mountian Road. A student walking home reported seeing a man in a black Dodge sedan doing inappropriate things, according to Fallon.

Nearly 10 minutes later, a pair of students walking home along Dunholme Street reported witnessing lewd acts from a man in a navy blue sedan, possibly a Honda, Fallon said.

Neighbor David Vaughner saw the second suspect's car parked at the corner of Baywood Avenue and Dunholme Street at around the same time. He described it as a small, shiny, black hatchback with blacked out windows and temporary license tags.

Vaughner is a bit of a one-man neighborhood watch for the area, so it was no surprise the two students went to him with what they saw.

He said the car was strategically positioned at the corner so the driver could make a quick getaway, and that's what they did when Vaughner approached.

"It's alarming," he said. "I just got to keep my eye out."

Fallon said that no students reported being approached or spoken to by the men, but asked Mira Mesa residents to be on alert.

District police are increasing their surveillance and will be patrolling the neighborhood. Anyone who witnesses lewd or inappropriate acts can contact the San Diego Police Department.

Wangenheim Middle School is located at 9230 Gold Coast Drive.
